Photodynamic therapy
Photodynamic therapy utilises photosensitisers applied to tissue, which is absorbed preferentially by cells with higher metabolism, making them targets to the light energy which is applied to trigger signalling for Apoptotic cell death.
The common targets include overactive sebaceous glands, or malignant cells with increased metabolic activity.
We started providing Photodynamic therapy since 2007, mainly for acne, actinic keratosis, Bowen’s disease, and low risk basal cell carcinomas with highly favourable outcomes.
It is a widely performed office based procedure nowadays with confirmed efficacy and safety.
