Keloid Scars
Keloid scars may develop after any trivial skin injury. It represents an abnormal healing process where the signalling and influx of cells are different from the normal wound healing. It is characterised by continued growth of excessive scar tissue beyond the limits of initial skin injury, and composed of increased vasculature, thick exaggerated ropy collagen bundles, admixed with inflammatory cells, fibroblasts, myofibroblasts, and subsets of macrophages.
There are a many effective treatment options for keloid scars and we have gone far beyond intralesional injection of steroids.
